Central Oregon Fire Prevention Cooperative

The Central Oregon Fire Prevention Cooperative was formed in 1979 to promote an interagency exchange of ideas and resources. COFPC encourages its members to prevent fires in the central Oregon area through coordinated fire safety education programs, projects, and presentations. The central Oregon area encompasses Crook, Deschutes, Jefferson, and portions of Klamath counties.

Individually, public fire and life safety agencies and departments pool scarce resources, such as people and funding, to accomplish programs; together COFPC allows these agencies opportunities they may not otherwise be able to pursue. Providing consistent fire prevention messages across central Oregon has been an important function of COFPC since its formation.

COFPC is made up of all wildland and structural fire agencies within central Oregon. This includes the USDA Forest Service, the USDI Bureau of Land Management, the Oregon Department of Forestry, Walker Range Fire Patrol Association, the USDI Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, the Oregon State Fire Marshal, and 16 city and rural fire departments.

COFPC recognizes that individual departments and agencies will continue to have their own specific needs for communications, such as burn plans, closures, and public use restrictions. This also includes fire information for Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch Center or fire teams.

Working together, COFPC can reach children, visitors, residents, and recreationists with fire prevention awareness and education, to stop fires before they start.
